Snow dog

After the threat of snow for a couple of weeks it finally came. With a slight dusting on Wednesday evening the snow started to fall on Thursday night and didn’t stop as we woke up to a winter wonderland on Friday morning.

Mizu has seen snow before but it was like it was the first time all over again as he sniffed around and stuck his nose in it when I let him out first thing in the morning.

School had text before my alarm went off to say school was open, so it was routine (or lack of) as usual. My phone continued to buzz as fellow mummies on our group chat messaged asking how the roads were or to say they were snowed in, thankfully we live close to main roads that get cleared and gritted and have one practical family car that’s 4×4, so off to school we went in the falling snow. My OH drove as he intended to use it to get to work but that idea was shelved and he decided to work from home after seeing other cars struggling on the way to school…roads were not going to be fun today!

Little Miss was excited to see all of the students that made it in gathered in the hall around play/work stations, and with more than half the class having a snow day at home and their parents heading out to play out in the snow I took my fur baby to the park for a play.

With the local school still open, kids and bags were being pulled across the park on sledges to get to school and some were out to stay, pulling their sledges up the tiny mound to whizz down and do it all over again.

Mizu was in his element, open space and other dogs running around to play with but he is loving his Nerf ball and once his lead was off waited eagerly to play fetch.

My OH is always telling me function over fashion when it comes to clothing and to live by the words of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, “There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.”, so wrapped up in my down jacket, hat, gloves and field boots I was snug and loving being out in the snow too, with the laughter of children and crisp fresh air it was a great start to the day.

Before I knew it we had been out for almost half an hour and my wee boy was starting to take on the snow dog look, so one more throw and retrieve before we made our way home for a hot cuppa and a treat.

With school pick up brought forward to lunchtime, we drove out of town to collect Little Miss, the roads were quiet and very picturesque with the snow covered trees, however, I was still looking forward to getting home to snuggle up together on the sofa with my OH, Little Miss and now dry snow dog.
